01 The problem

Canyon Controls needed a new hardware design across four product types: the Power Pack, Dial, Switch and Sensor. Each needed to share one bus system and work with existing Z-Wave smart home systems.

Putting a Z-Wave radio in every unit would add cost the product could not carry.

02 Our work

We built the platform on the ESP32-C3 processor and connected all four product types using a Cat5e bus system.

We designed a CAN bus bridge to connect the system to Z-Wave networks. The bridge removes the need for a radio in every unit, lowering both cost per unit and design complexity.

03 What we delivered
  • 01A full hardware design across four product lines: Power Pack, Dial, Switch and Sensor
  • 02An ESP32-C3 design with a shared Cat5e bus system
  • 03A CAN bus bridge design for Z-Wave interoperability
  • 04Design documents for the manufacturing handoff
